| 151953 | 2003-06-12 01:58:00 | Hello there, I would like to know how I could covert VCR and DVs into VCD/DVD or any other computer media files. Is there any hardware/software out there I need to purchase and will they teach me how to use it? Thanks. | BevChuang (4004) | ||

If it is an OK brand, it will come with the software needed to record from the TV. You will have to also purchase the cablses conecting your VCR to TVTuner card. As to how to get it [converted video] onto your computer, that is dependant on the software you use. Then we would also have to have a discusion on which CoDec would be the best to use. This all takes Hard Drive space - and lots of it. For a movie length DVD, it could take up to 10GB space. For a Divx movie length (1hour30mins) about 700MB. It is both software and hardware issues. | 151955 | 2003-06-12 02:36:00 | ive done quite a bit of this. I use a ledteak capture card which i plug my vcr into, and use the provided software to capture my film During capturing the huffman codec is generally considered the best. Then ya simply load the file into a free program called tmpgenc, click vcd and she converts it to the mpg format ready to be burned onto a cd and played on ya dvd player. Having said that,it aint the best way to do it as there can be numerous problems that can crop up(audio/video sync being the most prominent) The best way to do it is to run the vcr thru and anolog/digital converter that then feeds it into you pc via the firewair port. This process locks the audio and video together and generally gives a superior end product. Expect to spend about $600 for that sort of a set up. One other thing to note, they recommend a secondary hd dedicated to capturing to. info and tutorials can be found here- www.vcdhelp.com anolog to digital converters can be found here www.canopus.com General tv capture cards can be found at your local computer store. |

It is probably not available in NZ yet but any local PC shop should be able to source it. I expect it would end up about $200-250NZ if you can get it. www.cnn.com |
