151741 2003-06-11 04:23:00 Newly formatted computer running M.E. The mouse pointer following bootup works normally. If the computer is left idle after a period of time the mouse goes crazy and is uncontrollable. This also happens after you have been on the Internet for a short time and is now doing it when Outlook Express is running and checking mail. Computer has 190 Mg ram and 2 Gb hard drive which has some faulty sectors.
Any help or advice much appreciated

151742 2003-06-11 05:34:00 What sort of mouse is it?

Have you tried all the connections to make sure nothing is loose? Also, do you have another mouse that you could try?

151743 2003-06-11 06:14:00 Its possibly a conflict with the IRQ assigned to the mouse being the same as that assigned to the modem?

These two will not always play nicely together.

151744 2003-06-11 06:20:00 hehe i had one of those

i opened it up and fiddled with the sensors and adjusted the angle it faces the receiver.

not recommended trying if you don't know what your doing. I didn't but it worked for me :D

151745 2003-06-11 06:25:00 Have tried both a standard mouse and a Genius mouse with a driver and still get the same trouble. normlove (3997)
151746 2003-06-11 06:47:00 Changing the driver will not usually change the IRQ.

What IRQ is reported as being used by each?
Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - [right click on each device] - Properties - Resources.

Post the info back here if you can.

151747 2003-06-11 06:52:00 I had something similair (it was a busted mouse) and it did this:
Has fits constantly clicking (not by you) buttons and getting attracted to the start-bar?

Cheap $5 mouse , Transparent green and had a logo that looked like an A (I think)

Also check down the cable - it dosent have and stripped bits or huge kinks? if you think its a kink wiggle if and see if it has fits.

Why does it sound like i'm torturing something? :D

Cheers

151748 2003-06-11 08:43:00 I have checked the IRQ setting and they are not on the same one. normlove (3997)
151749 2003-06-11 08:48:00 Both mice that we tried are fairly new. The Genius is very new. normlove (3997)
