151736 2003-06-11 04:20:00 I tried to install the modem like it said in the readme for
XH1154 DSE Intenal 56K Modem V92- HaM V2
But it didn't work. It said that I needed the mandrake source headers.
How do I install. I not very good at linux (yet) so would someone mind giving me a heads up

Heres what the Konsole said.

151737 2003-06-11 06:24:00 Hmmmm. If you have a couple of hundred megs spare this should work (the only way i can remember offhand)

1) load up your RPM manager and find an RPM called Kernel-source.....rpm and install that.

2) compile and load drivers

then you can remove kernel source again if you want to.

Hey can any1 double check this first? I remem the kernel headers being not enuf to compile drvers anymore.

Cheers Patryn

151738 2003-06-11 07:33:00 Start from scratch. Take yourself off to linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages, locate and download scanModem.gz (it's a massive 20K!), then run it.

I've used it on two modems so far -- a Conexant and a Lucent -- and in both cases it not only detected the modems correctly but also directed me to download sites where I located the necessary drivers. In RPM format too! Bliss!!
