152279 2003-06-13 08:02:00 Fresh install after reformatted drive.
Just re-installed windows after about 3 years of use (new motherboard), re-installed office 2000 and it didn't request product activation. It would appear Microsoft has lost interest in it's older office suites.

152280 2003-06-13 08:06:00 It's not Microsoft as a company that requests the activation, it's built in to the software. If it didn't request activation, then either you've used a corporate code that doesn't require activation, or you've got a version that doesn't need it.

Or perhaps you just haven't waited long enough or used it enough times to get the message asking for activation.

152281 2003-06-13 21:49:00 No, it's not corporate. I purchased the software in 2000. Previously it would request activation, now it doesn't. I'm guessing the activation that is built into the software has ceased. pavlr (3220)
152282 2003-06-13 22:00:00 I doubt that :)

152283 2003-06-13 23:25:00 have you tried running say word? does it say how many goes you have left? you may have missed the activation prompt and need to do it manually.

also did you install windows/office over the top or format/install ??

152284 2003-06-13 23:26:00 oops i missed the reformatted drive bit. you didn't by any chance use your old activation code? tweak'e (174)
152285 2003-06-14 00:27:00 I am prepared to be corrected here but it's my belief that there is a date after which microsoft doesn't require registration of Office 2000.
I've been contemplating a reformat myself but always hate the hassle of ringing MS and explaining why I need a new confirmation (again).
I may just give it a go and see what happens.

152286 2003-06-14 01:25:00 if you are only doing a reformat and have changed no hardware then you can reuse the old activation code. tweak'e (174)
