152404 2003-06-14 01:00:00 Well I have one VERY good suggestion. I can send you my 17" if you send me your 19" :D

What you should try is 2048*1536 on a 17" monitor. The text is REALLY small and you have to put up with the 60Hz refresh rate as well.

152405 2003-06-14 01:15:00 IMO (and I've seen this with a resource editor, too), these days, most Windows icons also come in 48x48 pixels.

Have you tried going to 'Display Properties', clicking on the 'Appearance' tab, and from the 'Item:' drop down list select 'Icon' and change the icon size?

Don't think it'll affect the task bar icons though...

Or in the 'Effects' tab, tick 'Use large icons'. I just tried this, in 1024x768, and all the icons on the desktop are like two times bigger. No effect on taskbar still though...

You could always try ticking 'Show small icons in Start Menu' in the 'General' tab of 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties'... I'm sure that, in comparison, the size of icons on the start menu at the moment would look big enough.

I guess this whole thing says that I shouldn't buy a 22" Sony LCD if I had the money? Even though a 21" flatscreen CRT looks much more blacker (as in, when they're off, the black of the CRT looks more black than slightly glossy charcoal on the LCD), and would kill my back if I had to take it anywhere :D

152406 2003-06-14 01:57:00 Oh well, u saved me having to say it agent :)

More specificly:
Display properties -> Appearance Tab -> Advanced -> Item Menu -> Select Icon.

I can increase my icon size to 72 - huge!. You could also try changing the icon horizontal and vertical size as well.

152407 2003-06-14 03:55:00 One can't help but wonder why we bother getting higher resolution screens if we can't use the sodding things.
I think those icon options are actually point sizes for the text with the icons, I did make it larger but saw know obvious change.
This is very disappointing, not to mention damned annoying.

152408 2003-06-14 03:58:00 So why don't you use a hot resolution changer - browse what you want at a realistic res, then when you want to take a screenshot then change the res, take the shot, then change back? :D

152409 2003-06-14 04:08:00 Yeah MultiRes is a good program which sits in the system tray and allows you to easily switch between resolutions.

As for the wanting higher resolutions. The higher the resolution the more stuff I can fit on the screen. More PF1 posts, more icons, more cells. I generally use the highest res that I can at 85Hz.

152410 2003-06-14 04:31:00 And I'm left with a sodding 60Hz... noticeable refresh from the corner of my eye. :D

Still, no harm done yet...

152411 2003-06-14 13:16:00 To increase (or decrease) the size of text in IE, just hold down the Ctrl key and rotate the mouse wheel (this works for me with a MS Intellimouse anyway).

In Word 2000 try: View, Toolbars, Customise, Options, Other ... tick Large Icons.

152413 2003-06-14 22:40:00 robo,

Have you tried changing the resolution? In your desktop, right click, go into properties, and under the Appearance Tab, is there an option for the resolution? I . e with my LCD monitor i have the option of 1074x720 (or whatever it was, I can't remember - am not logged into WinXP at the moment) or 800x600 .

Anyone know what I'm talking about here? its like a sliding meter or something, and you switch between resolutions .
Or is this something that you have to install into the computer?
