| 152686 | 2003-06-15 08:24:00 | I can't get a network card to install on a PC using win XP Home Edition (SR1). Duron 1200 on Gigabyte mother board. The card is correctly detected and identified at boot up but Windows won't install the driver by any method or from any source. Have tried both Gigabyte and CNet cards and tried a different PCI slot. Regardless of what I try the error messages are.... - "This device is not configured correctly (code1). - "No driver files are loaded for this device". - "There was a problem during the installation of this device. The data is invalid". |

| 152687 | 2003-06-15 10:58:00 | Hi, The data invalid error message has hunted may users upgrading to XP from previous operating systems . Which you can read here . ( . theinquirer . net/?article=2563" target="_blank">www . theinquirer . net) Anyway yes this issue can be solved by closely reading then doing the following . . . 1) Click "Start" and select "Run" type in "regedit" and click "OK" . The Registry Editor will then appear on the screen 2) Double Click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" 3) Double Click on "SYSTEM" 4) Double Click on "CurrentControlSet" 5) Double Click on "Enum" 6) Double Click on "PCI" You will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx" Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name eg "3&61aaa01&0&50" 7) You will need to Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the network card you are trying to install . ie . . "xxx Fast Ethernet Adapter" 8) Once located Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' 9) Tick "Allow" for "Full Control" . 10) Close Regedit . You can reboot an your NIC should install no problems Jess |
