152671 2003-06-15 04:14:00 the system is in and running . . . . . .
and we feel like shoving it out the window . . . dont know what was worse old system or new . . . . .
we brobably cut more people off now than before and they dont always ring back . transfering while on mobile is a no go so might as well hang up on them . and run to office for when they ring back . . . . . . (if they ring back) LOL

they put in extra ram ? (memory) in the old pentium but its still so slow and i overload it a bit and it does the big freeze on me heaps so we have stopped using it .

we can lock and lock phones by our phone system and thats ok but we can not access the amount to charge if they make calls because callista is to stressful to book people in by and then does not always except them or save it to tell us which room they in etc . . .

so that hammer is gonna come in handy real soon .

we had to get a new printer for the pentium but it does not have USB ports so had to buy different sort of printer and leads . . .
we dont have any books how to use callista or any CDs either for some reason . . . . .
but because the pentium is so sluggish and cant handle the only program on it we have to update it / up grade it but we cannot use a puter with XP on it or take it off and install win 95 or 98 .

so more money and i still have real slow net speed on the pc comp computer which is slowly driving me up the wall!!!

so not a good look or feeling for anything done so far, so lots of glitche s and groans round here . . . .

can anyone recomend a make / model of a computer that will suit to use?
oh and the pentium is so old that it does not have a phone jack / point in it so it cant ever go online . . . . . . . so it means work emails cant go through that puter either .

suggestions please . . . . . new or second hand ?

hammer soon very soon otherwise .

any other suggestions welcome . .

feel at moment money down the drain but it may work better sometime soon hopefully .

152672 2003-06-15 08:08:00 it dont matter if it aint gotta modem or usb............assuming there are expansion slots on the back (most likely where they are) then you can install that stuff....... drcspy (146)
152673 2003-06-15 09:17:00 i think what i meant was why buy lots of new accessories for somthing that needs upgrading, and we had to put in more memory that still does not help in the long run .

and if a new puter has it all why not go that way instead of time / money down drain trying to fix somthing that is effectively quite broke .

my motto had always been dont touch it if aint broke, but this is beyond a joke as itll cost so much more to upgrade i feel than is absolutely nescasary?

and we still wont be able to do anything else than use it for callista checking in / out and phone charges . ?

someone tell me something different? or not as the case may be?

152674 2003-06-15 10:11:00 Its a pity the company installing the system did not have a good understanding of the hardware needs for reasonable performance . That may have led to a stronger recommendation for a new PC a lot earlier .

My experience however suggests that some companies will not do this as it can interfere with a sale of the system itself . Technically it will run so they will install it, if thats what they have quoted to do .

I would talk to the company that supplied the system, as if it will not really do what was it is designed to do, then they should not have upgraded the old PC, or should refund any costs that were incurred in upgrading, as they have a "duty of care" (they are the "experts" in giving such advice) .

Its not up to the customer to be able to second guess the hardware needs of a software package they have never used before .

You really should "cut your losses" and upgrade the PC by the sound of it .
Probably you only need the CPU box as the monitor may be OK . If the old PC has OEM windows 98 (installed and supplied with the PC originally) then technically you cannot transfer that operating system over, so you need to buy a PC with Windows 98 SE (and I think you can, its not quite dead yet) .

Probably not a "brand name" PC though, as you would be paying for an XP operating system you would not be using (and could not transfer to another PC) .

Much of this was forseen in your original discussion on PF1 in May, if I remember correctly .
It was suspected then that the software would run only on a DOS based operating system .

Just remember the principle, the customer cannot be expected to know what would be needed, they can only be guided by the supplier .

If the supplier makes unwise recommendations then the supplier should at minimum refund any customer expenditure incurred as a result of the recommendations being implemented .

152675 2003-06-15 22:07:00 thank you godfather will get back to you on how things go.....

and yes i can see a new pc in the running.... oh dear never mind.
had the feeling the old one would not work from the start, but the heireichy said use it to save money and time.

hopefully these wobbles and glitches we seem to be having will get better and we will have it as a distant memory.

you have stated a few things so they are more clear for my understanding but i had the gist of it to start with.

no more news as of yet but the day is young

152676 2003-06-18 23:31:00 more problems to report.

yesterday there was an accident in the street that is around the corner,

(wondering?) well they took out the power pole and its caused a power surge and a power cut.
which effectively took our phones and computer out of action, all phones personal and business, as the computer got zapped and blew the fuses and shorted out the phone system and they took a while to find out why and how.... etc this all happened at 7.45 am in the morning by lunchtime we were up and running again but well how do i say it..... the computer is not well, um going .... well just a tiny teeny bit sorta.....LOL
not enough and we will have to deffinetly upgrade....
battery back up on the puter died ( a new one, couldnt handle the charge?) so ?
and the new printer works wonderfully or did when puter running, but it prints slower than expected is this because of the system that was running it?
will it change when have new puter?
back to manual operations here again.

but the phones are back they fixed the line for the (my) computer and im back up and running at 48, via extremely long cable out the lounge down the hall and into the office. and locked in before the phone system gets it.

but the long term plan is for the cord to go out a wall along outside wall and go in a wall, as all walls are concrete block we may just go with existing tiny holes and make a new cable when in place (fit ends).

the phone system is better and i had begun to understand callista better before the power cut, so i may have lost all memory (LOL)

:D

no other news,

at least the leaks in the ceiling didnt kill the other computer (MY one) and the pool flooding has been sorted .... swim anyone?
and the wind has stopped and life is livable today (well at the moment)
the draughts are being stuffed with newspaper and the fire may be put in next week hopefully.....

time for sleep...... would be nice
im still in one peice ill live

bye

152679 2003-06-19 05:41:00 Hmm, well don't let the salesman talk you into getting something way beyond what you need if you are getting something for Callista . If Callista is running, slow or not, on that old PC then you don't need a heap of grunt in the new one .

Remember also, if you buy new you won't be able to get a PC without Windows XP installed, or even Windowless for that matter, but you will be paying for it . If the old PC is going to permanently retire then you can pinch the Win 95 off it and put it on the new one but getting a shop to do that for you will be a challenge . The PC Company certainly won't . If you can't/don't want to get something second hand the best option is a custom-built low-spec machine (by today's standards, that is) that your old Win 95 can be installed on .
