2003-06-15 02:03:00 | Hi Team I am being bugged by inconsistent browser behaviour (W98/IE 5.0, I'm a fast learner). I don't usually have more than one browser window open at one time, but occasionally I want to have a couple of sites open plus PF1. Sometimes this is OK, but more often than not the first site is dumped when I open the second. It is particularly annoying if PF1 is dumped with an incomplete post open as I then have to rewrite it. The back button sometimes saves me but I'd like a more stable browsing experience. I have looked on and off for some time for any setting that regulates the number of browser windows that can be open at one time, but have never found anything. It is just a minor irritant, but Sod's law ensures that it only bites me when I want to access info on two or three sites at once for cross referencing purposes. It is particularly annoying if a link opens a new site and dumps the original. Any ideas/advice welcome. Cheers Billy 8-{) :|

2003-06-15 02:15:00 | Not what I would call normal, I can have five or six open without bother, they usually hang around longer than they need to for me. Have you cleaned out all the non-useful memory-resident crapola? robo/

LOL watch out Billy T theres lots of blondes about... me included.. but have a nice day any way, no offense taken and none given beetle |

2003-06-15 02:53:00 | Why are you still using IE 5 when you could be using IE 5 . 5 or 6 Your open in new window is not always working, it is not that it is dumping the first site . | 152624 | 2003-06-15 02:58:00 | just to add to Jim B if you are going to stick to the 5 series then 5.01sp2 and 5.5sp2 are the best 2 to use :) | tweak'e (174) | |
2003-06-15 03:01:00 | I used to have that trouble, then someone put me onto Netscape. The tab system they have where you can move between windows is far more intuitive. Download Netscape 7 off the PC World magazine disc

2003-06-15 03:32:00 | Well, I don't have an option to 'Reuse windows for launching shortcuts' so I guess it must be an "early version" browser shortcoming. Why do I use 5.0? because it has always been there and is reliable & stable, apart from this particular glitch. I have plenty of upgrade options to load from my vast collection of PC World disks so I guess I could load some service packs or move up to IE 5.5. Any ideas on fixing within IE 5.0.2314.1003 would be appreciated, otherwise I'll bite the bullet. Is IE 6 compatible with W98 original? Somehow I doubt that MS will have been that thoughtful but I thought I'd better ask. Cheers Billy 8-{)
