| 152548 | 2003-06-14 14:00:00 | What files does Windows process when it starts up, where are these files located, what is the equivelent of the "kernel" on Linux systems? A few questions. I'm just curious. |

| 152549 | 2003-06-14 22:05:00 | The explorer process is what makes up your GUI in doze, not to mention when you open My Computer, and also Internet Explorer.. Kill the explorer process and all three things die with it :( It processes the SAM file as well, which is located in \windows\system32\config (For NT-Based systems here is what Im describing :-)) There's a ton of other things too, mostly in the \windows\system32 folder. Get your hands on a PC with an NT-based OS and hit Crtl + Alt + Esc and hit the process tab to check it all out :-) Cheers Chilling_Silence |

You could have a look at the bootlog for a few more details. BTW. c:\io.sys is the DOS kernel. Which is why windows 9x won't run without it. |

Change to a verbose bootup to find this out. simply add /noguiboot to your boot.ini thusly: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect /noguiboot this has the disadvantage (advantage?) of also disabling BSOD's.. so your computer will lock up and you wont have much of a chance of figuring out why. There are other methods though. Google is your friend. |
