152506 2003-06-14 07:36:00 Hi. I need some advice. What motherboard is the beeter of these 2 - I am going to get one, and they are both pretty much the same price, but i don't no whats the better of the two: www.chaintech.com.tw and www.chaintech.com.tw cheers fergie (424)
152507 2003-06-14 07:37:00 really, its only the chipset thats different, one has the Nforce one, and the other has a VIA KT400 - i don't no anything about these...
what one would you go with?

152508 2003-06-14 09:55:00 definetly go for the board with the NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400+ MCP chipset. This is the newer model of the board. It also has a faster FSB southern_jas (4017)
152509 2003-06-14 09:59:00 hi ya
But wouldn't the FSB speed be limited to what CPU you have ? (which in this case - a AMD 1800)
i may be wrong - as i don't know much about this stuff :(

Yeah, but a newer board and higher FSB means that if (when) you upgrade your CPU you'll be able to take advantage of the higher capabilities.

I'd also go for the Nforce over the VIA through the fact that NForce chipsets seem (IMHO) to be more reliable.

152511 2003-06-14 10:46:00 ok, thanks for all advice.

Just a quick Q, (i'll probably go with Nforce one - just curious)
Is the VIA KT400 chipset much better than the VIA KT333??
Ok sweet - o also, any one have/or used any of these chaintech m/b's??
I've read a heap of reveiws - and they all sound good.

152512 2003-06-14 10:54:00 Yep, I would go for the NForce chip! Also you should take special care where you place your warranty for the m/b. Don't know about Chaintech?:| Archibald (180)
152513 2003-06-14 11:49:00 the other thing with the nforse is the dual DDR, as long as you use 2 ram sticks you can get a much higher ram bandwidth.

as far as chaintech go.............personally i wouldn't touch em with a 20ft barge pole but thats just me ;-)
