152601 2003-06-15 03:39:00 How old is it? If it's still in warramty, get the PC Company to fix it.

Otherwise, have you got a boot floppy for it, or a bootable recovery CD?

This is a problem with the hard disk. If you can't load the boot code, you can't boot. This might need a reinstallation of the whole OS.

Is the computer still under guarantee? If so, gert the PC Company fo fix it . :D

If not, you should have a recovery CD disk . (This might involve reinstalling the OS . )

152604 2003-06-15 04:04:00 Hi, got a CD, have loaded into CD Rom, but nothing happends - yes still should be under warrenty. Pmagan (743)
152605 2003-06-15 04:11:00 You may need to set the BIOS to make it boot the CD . . . if you're not sure of this (and it's under warranty ;-)) . . . you're best to get them to do it .

Sorry about the superfluous postings . . . for some reason it kept timing out, then lost my text . Computers . :_|

152606 2003-06-15 09:22:00 Pmagan,
You may have the problem described in either of these MS KB articles:
Unmountable_Boot_Volume #1 (support.microsoft.com) or Unmountable_Boot_Volume #2 (support.microsoft.com) and here is some more information Unmountable_Boot_Volume #3 (www.microsoft.com)
in which case depending on how old your laptop (warrenty period) take it back and get them to fix it or do so yourself or get someone qualified to help you.

Finally here is some info / comment from Mike Truitt [MS]

"It comes down to an inconsistency on how the IDE specification handles caching. What most likely has happened is that the NTFS transaction logfile ($logfile) has become out of sync with the drive. This happens when the OS performs write
through caching and the drive instead holds the data on its hardware cache and then tries to write it out in a non-deterministic method. This becomes a problem when there is a surprise shutdown and the hardware cache is flushed before it is written to the drive.

To work-around the issue, you should be able to boot to a Recovery Console, log into it (see Q308402 if you have problems with this) and then run a chkdsk /r. This will reset the $logfile and allow you to enter the system. I would suggest getting the patch off of Windows Update for Q315403 when the system is up and running again."

Cheers, Babe.
