1315376 2012-11-29 05:27:00 Word on the street is that some of the aerospace industry’s biggest players — Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream and NASA — will soon reveal plans for a passenger jet that goes from London to Sydney in four hours.

This plane is designed to carry 12 passengers and will cost about $80 million to develop. The new plane will be capable of travelling at 2500 mph. Engineers are working on a way to cut out the loud boom (when it breaks the sound barrier I guess).

Heard this on Prime news tonight.

1315378 2012-11-29 08:00:00 The solution reportedly involves a design with thinner wings and engines that are kept hidden. Looks at picture, 4x massive engines... yup, real hidden. Didn't even see them there :D

Still awesome to see aviations evolving. I just hope these things aren't all robotic so I might get a chance to fly one :p I'd be so lucky!

You all have to look real close now, y'hear?

Probably their R&D guys trying to justify their existence. It's been mooted for some time now (LHR-SYD in four hours) but in the end, it's always ended up as a pipe dream.

1315383 2012-11-29 20:06:00 Yeah - only thing is this plane has to avoid going over Land due to breaking the sound barrier over and over again . . . Saw the "flight path" on the news last night . . . Over the north (or was it south =\) pole . . .

Definitely watch this space though . . .

1315384 2012-11-29 20:30:00 I doubt i will see these in production in my life time. Brilliant idea but 1 crash will see the end of them Gobe1 (6290)

I cant see there being many buyers(if any) for this plane.
The tech for this sort of thing has been around since the 60's . There's good reasons new supersonic airliners arnt being built.

Another 'paper' airplane ?? :)
