1315312 2012-11-29 00:50:00 Mrs T won tickets to a screening of 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', so we went to the preview last night, and I can honestly say it was the worst film I have ever seen, by a country mile. People were getting up and leaving in droves as the film dug itself into a deeper and deeper hole down south in Louisiana!

We watched to the end, in case it got better, but it was forlorn hope and we were resoundingly disappointed.

It was total unadulterated crap, and my reason for posting this is threefold:

1) To spare you the horror of ever having to watch it.

2) As a warning to prepare divorce papers or your will, just in case your better-half reads the glowing reviews and actuallly persuades you to go see it.

3) To suggest a viable third option, which is to get good and drunk, then go lie on a railway track somewhere that KiwiRail still provides occasional services and pray that a train actually runs over you before you are found and dragged off to see the damned movie. (Take extra bottles in case you start to sober up while waiting for the train).

If it had a 'best part', I'd vote for either the Hogs or the Whores, both were easily the most attractive characters, but you'll have to see it if you want to argue about my choices.

Go on, I dare you..........

Cheers

1315314 2012-11-29 01:11:00 When I first started reading your post where the title reads 'Beasts of the Southern Wilds' I thought that it must have been set down south in Southland (there has been some short film making in Southland). I was quite relieved when I read that it was down south in Louisiana. A wild guess is that you did not enjoy the film. Bobh (5192)

I nearly didn't watch Prometheus because of the reviews:
"The dumbing down of science fiction films is prevalent throughout the entire genre . What I did find however was shockingly poor . A character list that I couldn't care less about launch themselves headfirst into a half baked search for the creators of humanity . Supposedly intelligent crew members of the Prometheus take every opportunity to stick fingers in alien goop and open doors to suspected infected shipmates without a second thought . Questions that I am not really sure I had are now bugging me as the film does more to promote itself a sequel than pay dues to the Alien franchise that it basis itself on . The only saving grace I can think of may well lie with the obvious sequel . If this second film delivers something truly original and sews together the Prometheus/Alien/Space Jockey stories so incredibly well as to produce something of an epiphany, then, and only then will these words be eaten . I think that I may well go hungry . "

However, I did watch it . And ignoring all the why stuff, it was the usual aliens get the crew movie . Quite good really .

So sometimes it's a matter of personal likes and dislikes .

1315316 2012-11-29 01:12:00 Strange that has such good reviews if you say it is that bad.
Even Rotten Tomatoes gives it an 85% rating, which is usually a better measure of a movie than IMDB, I've found anyway.

1315317 2012-11-29 01:16:00 OTOH Billy may just be in the 15% minority who don't like it.

"According to Metacritic, which assigns aggregate scores from the amount of positive or negative critical reviews of films, Beasts of the Southern Wild has a 86/100 based on 41 critic reviews.[14] Similarly, Rotten Tomatoes reports that the film has received a "Fresh" rating of 87% from 141 reviews (122 positive, 19 negative), with the consensus: "Beasts of the Southern Wild is a fantastical, emotionally powerful journey and a strong case of filmmaking that values imagination over money.""

1315319 2012-11-29 01:51:00 Hmm, interesting view. I'm yet to see it, but a couple friends have and both enjoyed it. Will watch it over the next couple days and see, then ... ;) inphinity (7274)
1315320 2012-11-29 02:27:00 I haven't seen it and am not in a rush to, but worst film ever really? There are some truly bad movies out there. I'm sure you could find something to dislike more :)

I can't name my worst movie ever, mainly because whatever it was I stopped watching after about 15 mins and never thought to memorise the title.
Diamond dogs was a contender though, that was terrible.

1315321 2012-11-29 02:57:00 I still havent finished Ghostrider 2 and probably never will.

I am sick of all the remakes, with all the good books written there are untold good stories they could make movies from but nooooooo they have to remake a movie from 20-30 years ago and make it worse than the original :groan:

I am waiting for Wreck it Ralph
