1315150 2012-11-27 21:43:00 Went for one at an IT co, not exactly IT - a mix of IT admin and office admin.

At interview the other week, they said they had 150 applicants, didn't surprise me, but todays one said he had 450.
Jeez....guess I did well to get to interview stage.

1315151 2012-11-27 21:48:00 Well done man... The numbers sound unrealistic - but believe you me they are...

Perseverance is the key mate... that and not being 'too' picky with the jobs you're applying for... something will come up.

1315153 2012-11-27 22:31:00 Funny, we're struggling to find many decent applications for an Intermediate SysAdmin (Windows) role in Auckland. Seems there are two extremes, either huge numbers of candidates, or few at all. Or maybe I'm just really picky :x

Oh, if anyones interested in that role, PM me if you want more info...

Yeah, but that's a bit more specialist.....
And...perhaps...Web Drive used to have that problem too, but then that was because they paid low. Their Python guy, which took them ages to find, got $70k. I looked up market rate and it was quite a bit higher than that....

Anyway, I'm not a specialist, just a run of the mill, common as dirt tech with admin experience.
There's way too many of us apparently.

Ideally we're after someone with experience in a range of areas, without needing to be a specialist in any - Desktop support, Server management (Active Directory, mostly Windows boxes with a few variations like Redhat, ubuntu, FreeBSD and ESXi), Oracle DB, basic networking, etc. Have been ideally hoping to find people who've been in the SME support space for a while and looking to transition, but man, not many about :/
