1314620 2012-11-25 05:26:00 As a matter of interest I thought I would air a little query on this forum that has been bothering a few mates and myself for some time now.

The basic question is: “Is the Sun burning you more now than it used to?”

One mate pointed out that he used to sit on a tractor all day making hay and never got burnt. Now he gets burnt working in his orchard if he doesn’t cover himself with sunscreen. Another, of very dark complexion, got burnt yesterday whilst out fishing. He also claimed he has never burnt before and it was him that raised the topic again.

Myself, I’ve always been susceptible to sunburn, but I have noticed that the Aussie sun doesn’t burn me like here.

Sooooooo, I just thought I’d check amongst this forum and see if there is a trend with a few more numbers. :)

1314623 2012-11-25 09:48:00 Not that I noticed, perhaps the change in burn is due to age causing the skin to become a little more sensitive. Scientifically the ozone layer depletion would be to blame. The Error Guy (14052)

This plus the fact that most people spend less time outdoors as they get older.

1314625 2012-11-25 20:58:00 30 years ago, getting sunburnt was simply part of the summer ritual. Everyone got burnt (almost)
Everyone went out & tried to get a nice brown tan.

But now , getting sunburnt is something that gets us seriously worried . We also tend to cover up more now, so we stay whiter for longer meaning the burn could be a bit nastier if we get burnt. (??)

The heat has gone downhill, so we have to get burnt quicker just in case the heat is gone tomorrow.

No. I definitely don't burn as much as when I was a kid.
