1314600 2012-11-24 23:22:00 Hi All

I have some WWII vintage German radio equipment that needs attention. I'm looking for a competent "old school" person who can get them back into action. Anyone know anybody? I'm in Auckland so someone here would be best.

Thanks in advance.

Best,..Rob

Any chance of a few more clues as to what needs to be done, Make, Model, Pictures, Transmitters, Receivers................etc. :) The more clues the better.

Parts may be a problem if we're talking Valves.

1314604 2012-11-25 02:48:00 Try to use a more descriptive subject heading as some people will just skip over one like that. mikebartnz (21)
1314605 2012-11-25 02:52:00 Post some pics :) I'm keen to see it. As BM said, replacement valves can be a problem although some people convert to solid state electronics to replace out-of-production tubes or to replace certain components that severely impact quality/performance or are subject to breaking. I believe there is a company or two that make replacement valves with solid state electronics housed in a body that resembles the original valve/tube. Could be of use depending on the value of the said radios. The Error Guy (14052)
1314606 2012-11-25 03:04:00 Thanks feersumendjinn..

The Ham guys maybe a go. For B.M., the collection so far is:

1. Torn Eb receiver (working)
2. Torn Fu d2 (working)
3. Feld Fu b (working)
4. Mw. E.c. (deader than Elvis)
5. Kl. Fu. Spr "Dorette" (As above)
6. Lichtsprechgerat (LiSpr 80.80) (Also needs work) This is my favourite piece of equipment. The Carl Zeiss guys managed to figure how to transmit voice over Infra Red in 1935. If anyone cares, there is a good article on this gear here (www.fieldgear.org).
7. Bakelite "Volksempfanger" (Peoples receiver) In working condition. A cheap radio so they could get the word out to the masses. (It receives the same propaganda, just now in English!)

The valves seem to have filaments OK. From other forums, capacitors are often the issue. It also comes down to skill & patience. I have a basic (read very basic) understanding of how these work, but I"m more like the car guy that can drive, but cant do the repairs. Hence I am looking for a very fussy, skilled person that is willing to take on a project.

For those interested, my gear can be seen here (www.fieldgear.org)

Any other help appreciated.

Best,.>Rob

1314607 2012-11-25 03:11:00 For The Error Guy..

Some links included in my previous post. Originality is an issue. New caps inside the old can s fine, but I cant accept anything that looks like its just been hung onto it to make it work.

Valves can be sourced, so not so worried about that, i need someone with the technical skill to do the surgery.

Further to the Lispr Infra red device, there is a Norwegian collector with a working pair, & a Youtube clip at www.youtube.com

1314608 2012-11-25 03:18:00 Whoops, sorry I did'nt quite read all that. Yes, inside the body of an original component is fine.

I also note the comment about the heading. Too late now, but is in mind for next time.

I guess Im looking for a personal referral here as this gear has cost me some money over the years & I dont want anything less than perfection...

Easy, isn't it! LOL

1314609 2012-11-25 03:39:00 Wow, what an interesting collection that certainly deserves to be restored correctly.

It’s a matter of where does one start because there is a big difference between getting them going and restoring them faithfully, or as faithfully as possible. For example it is easy enough to replace an old Vibrator Power Supply with a Solid State one, but then it is hardly original, or is it? :)

Personally, I’m not familiar with any of those models, but look forward to the threads expansion.

Do we have anyone who can read German? :)
