1314573 2012-11-24 19:44:00 Sorry for this dumb question.

I have just moved into a new flat and my daughter has given me her old tv.

Its only one year old but with no manual.

The landlord says the tv aerial cable is going.

But when I plug the tv in and turn it on and go to tune it it says

"No Signal" and there is no hash noise.

So I think the aerial cable is not connected.

What do you think ?

I am thinking of buying some rabbit ears until I can get a dish up there.

1314574 2012-11-24 19:53:00 No signal means just that. Are you sure that your lead from the TV to the wall socket is good. Are you sure the TV is set to the correct input (most modern TVs have several possible inputs) wrong input will give no signal.

You can probably find a manual on line.

Faulty cable from TV --> Wall jack
Signal from wall is UHF not VHF
Wrong input on TV used
The landlord is having a laugh and the internal wiring doesn't work.

I'm guessing it's the 2nd one, UHF not VHF considering everyone is starting to push for the digital switchover.

The TV is a small Transonic - I cant believe how small and light it is!
It only has one tv aerial socket it says 75 O
I have had another play with it and still get "No Signal" when I tune for ATV (I pressure that means Analogue TV)
I see hash on the screen but get no sound.
(I presume it has speakers built in)

I have tried to find an on line manual with no luck so far - I can get the service manual ! (dur)
Its a Transonic TC 1558 LCD.

I tend to think that the landlady is having me on and that its either an old cable or its not connected.

1314577 2012-11-24 21:57:00 Try with rabbits ears aerial? ($2 shop?) If you're not too distant from transmitter sites you should get at least some signal, even with snow, that would be enough to prove that the TV is not at fault.
Have you tried different channels - if the TV set came from a different region it may need to be retuned.

1314578 2012-11-24 22:20:00 This site has some Transonic LCD TV manuals - no TC1558 but a couple of TC19-- 19inch models probably similar instructions.
www.orientalpacific.com

You can search and find TC1558 on that site.

Up until early December next year

1314580 2012-11-25 02:58:00 What sort of aerial does the lead go to outside, ie UHF,VHF or a dish? tut (12033)
1314581 2012-11-25 04:43:00 Does the TV do digital freeview built in? You could try that. As you say it's only 1 year old, you mention something like "analogue tv" mode. goodiesguy (15316)
1314582 2012-11-25 04:48:00 If www.thewarehouse.co.nz is the model, it has freeview. Nick G (16709)
