1314794 2012-11-26 19:40:00 I see that they have banned fracking in two countries.
France and Belgium.

Seeing as how there were probably no oil wells in either country its pretty easy to ban it.

It amuses me that all the anti this that and the other types still want to flick a switch and have the lights come on.

Yes and so many people complain about New Zealand not having this or that or being too dear, but they want to keep NZ population small, so that they can go to the beach and see only 2 people.

Or live in a ghost town with 1,000 people in it.

It is with a large population that you get service, cheaper prices, more vibrancy, more opportunities.

1314796 2012-11-26 19:48:00 Fracking has been going on for years all round the world with no major side effects.

1314797 2012-11-26 19:50:00 I like NZ just the way it is, it's the main reason I moved here, yes we do use electricity but we turn everything off at night at the wall except the fridge, we are looking at producing some of our own power and hot water and I cycle to work most days. I'm certainly not a greeny or a looney, but nor am I right leaning nutter who thinks JK is god.

I grew up in the nuclear shadow, there are at least 10 nuclear power plants in a 200 mile radius of where I was born so I know all about that and having a friend whose father was in charge of one of them I know more about the amount of leaks that were hushed up than any of you. Fracking is in the same basket.

If they could get the gas with traditional wells I wouldn't have a problem with them drilling near where I live

1314798 2012-11-26 20:22:00 Well there is probably nothing wrong with Fracking as long as it’s conducted properly.

As a matter of course the Loony Luddite Greenies would oppose it and publish a lot of tripe to support their argument.

But then they misrepresent cooling towers on coal powered Power Stations as Chimney’s and the Water Vapour coming out as Carbon Infested Smoke. Then the fiddle the data to support their Global Warming Hoax and so on.

But why would we bother with Fracking anyway?

We are blessed to have an abundance of possibilities for Hydro Power and there is not one good reason to consider anything else.

Oh that’s right, there could be a Snail living in the area that would be flooded.

If you don't prop-up that's where you going to fall, isn't it?

Those are 'swear words', as non of the lately proposed stations/dams would've been able to be build without huge opposition.

1314801 2012-11-26 20:45:00 Doesn't matter what you do, they will always appose it.

They, are the mindless left and the greenies.

I dunno. I'm what many would call a mindless leftie/greenie. I don't feel as though I have enough information to form an opinion on fracking, despite some prior reading that included both sides of the debate. I'm finding this thread interesting. I might reach a position on it as a result of the information here. I'm in favour of nuclear power, roughly, with caveats. I've paid extra for sustainable energy before 13c/kWH on top of the usual cost - so I also put my money where my mouth is. Eh.

Anyway, carry on :-)

I go along with all that, nuclear, not enough info on fracking.I was referring to the tendency of the leftie greenie groups tendency to appose say hydro,on one occasion due to the possible demise of a type of snail etc.
