Attention grabber for about 2 minutesI actually liked that. Seriously weird, yes, but watchable if you take it as intended. Besides, it had George Clooney in it. :p

Me too but they say I'm a bit weird apparently but I thought it was ok if you didn't take it seriously

1315327 2012-11-29 07:46:00 I just re-read your review Billy. After a careful analysis I'm beginning to think that there's just the faintest hint that on the balance of probability you're considering avoiding recommending it to us? coldot (6847)
1315328 2012-11-29 08:39:00 Hate to say it but I hated the first Lord of the Rings film. Wanted to leave after ten minutes. Wont be going to the Hobbit. b.... (7683)
1315329 2012-11-29 08:44:00 Beasts of the southern wild is an 'art house' film. Not everyone gets 'art house' films. wmoore (6009)
1315330 2012-11-29 08:57:00 I'm struggling to understand why PCTechs quote is about Promethius. Have wires become crossed or am I just too stupid to get it?

Promethius was good.

It had Charlise T :) :o ;)

1315331 2012-11-29 11:29:00 Beasts of the southern wild is an 'art house' film. Not everyone gets 'art house' films.

Because almost all of our regular movie-going is free, Mrs T and I have seen quite a few 'unusual' and art house films, including many with subtitles only, and have enjoyed all but the current example. However, I have never heard such a concerted wave of dissatisfaction as surrounded us we were leaving with our fellow viewers (those who managed to stay the distance).

I checked the reviews before we went, and I knew what the broad 'professional viewer' opinions were, so I went with an open mind and I was looking forward to it on that basis. We were actually prepared for something reasonably good, but I don't think a few professional reviewers' opinions are worth much against a sea of muttering discontent as the non-paying audience left.

If I had paid for entry on the basis of the formal reviews, I'd have been asking for my money back. One only has to look at some of the crap that is flogged off on the catwalk as 'haute couture' be convinced that some reviewers, experts and critics are so far up their own fundamental orifice that they wouldn't know if a policeman was up there too unless he blew his whistle.

It was an unpleasant, meaningless, vicious, and thoroughly nasty load of self-indulgent american twaddle, with serious child abuse and neglect, rampant alcoholism and barely concealed undertones of much much worse. I'll lay odds it has a very short season.

I am qualified to provide this opinion because not only I have seen it, but also my job does not require me to go watch and write politely about this sort of crap.

I'll be interested in the opinions of members who do go to see it...................

Cheers
