1314732 2012-11-26 06:25:00 In the station, only half the staff shift their clocks for daylight saving, they dispense the regular dross. The other half do the +1 garbage disposal. R2x1 (4628)
1314733 2012-11-26 07:01:00 The real question is why bother, I think they are just keeping the channels active until they might eventually have a need for more channels.

That's it dugimodo. We've ended up with the two major broadcasters protecting 5 of the 9 single digit channels available. TVNZ has TV1, TV2, and TV7; the other major player has TV3 and TV8. No matter meantime TV7 and TV8 are +1 channels, as far as the broadcaster is concerned they now own the rights, and are meeting the requirements by transmitting something on the frequencies.

So now, at some time in the future if they choose to expand, they own the rights to a single digit channel rather than the second ranking channels 26, 28, 34 et al. In the meantime, as long as they continue broadcasting something, anything, they own the rights to the more desirable single digit channel numbers.

I think the slickest move ever was when the FM station 89.4 went belly up a few years ago. NewstalkZB was on air on that frequency within the hour. Nice!

1314734 2012-11-26 08:38:00 Delayed broadcast on another channel comes in handy for me. I arrive home late and can still watch a programme that was originally broadcast at 7:30 pm an hour later at 8:30 pm. Bobh (5192)
1314735 2012-11-27 00:11:00 The timeshift thing would be better if Freeview didn't think that the 7:30 and 8:30 screenings were the same thing. If I set a program to record, it shows up on the guide as being recorded at both 7:30 and 8:30. What I would like is for them to be seen as different, so I could record 3 different programs that nominally start at 7:30, except set one to record at 8:30.

The weird thing is that sometimes Freeview will arbitrarily record the later version even if there is no conflict.

1314736 2012-11-27 00:47:00 That's something to do with your device. TiVo seems pretty good at distinguishing! Chilling_Silence (9)

You mean you don't have a DVD recorder (or a similar device) with which you can record a programme while you are out? I thought that everybody could do that.:illogical
