1314583 2012-11-25 05:11:00 What sort of aerial does the lead go to outside, ie UHF,VHF or a dish?

That is a problem it goes up into the ceiling and then I can't see where it goes.

Yes that is the model

I think I will get a rabbit ears aerial from Jaycar for $12.00 tomorrow just to test it and for a while.

I am in Tauranga and we go digital next year sometime.

1314584 2012-11-25 05:35:00 I dont think you have told us you failed to (auto or manual) tune it in.

If you can not or dont know how to tune the TV in, buying a indoor aerial is a bit like buying a road map for your car when you can not afford the petrol.

1314585 2012-11-25 07:25:00 I thought the aerials here were dead too (2 outside aerials). When we moved into this flat. It wasn't until I decided to check WHY it said no signal when I scanned for channels.

I decided to open up the wall jack and the cable (that you connect to the TV), wasnt even connected to the connections inside the wall jack !

Connected them now we can get most of the channels, except parliament. I think one of the du/diplexers whatever you call them are knackered. There's 2 of them on the 1 aerial

I have tried to tune it in, manually and auto and I say it scanning the frequencies, but picture came up and I get no sound at all.

I only gave it a minute or so, but Shirley I should have got something if the aerial was connected.

I am pretty certain that the aerial cables were installed by the same person that did Speedy's!

Its just a cable going up through a hole in the ceiling. No wall socket etc.

You have to go outside to see whether there's a suitable UHF aerial or a dish that needs an extra decoder.

All areas have digital already, Tauranga is broadcast from Kopukairua. It's the Analogue that will switch off.

1314588 2012-11-26 03:23:00 OK - here we go.
I went a bought a set of UHF/VHF rabbit rears from Jaycars for only $12.00
Plugged them in and not much difference, still the "No Signal Message" and no sound (even hash)
I had a good play with the tuning and after a long time I saw a couple of very weak pics for a few seconds.
So I plugged in the original cable - still no pictures.

I began to think that the tv had no speakers in it (as it was so small and light)
But it did not seem to have any audio output jacks.

Si I played around with the menu and came up with a "Initial Set Up option"
I went through this - Language - Country then it started tuning it took about 5 minutes and it had a green percentage bar on it.
At the top of the screen it showed something like Analogue Channels 3
Digital channels 19

Then it finished.

I pressed Exit and Menu, then I got some channels on screen!

I was able to get
TV1. TV2, Tv3 Maori, Prime, Shopping, China and a few others !

With a very clear pictures and good sound.

So the morale of the story is

We all missed the solution which was to run the initial set up.
Obviously my daughter had done this in her home town - Turangi.

So see Trademe for a set of rabbit ears for sale ! (ha ha)

1314589 2012-11-27 18:04:00 Argh now why did I think I needed to make a posting on the 25th about 6:30pm, and predict the out come, after following this thread. (one surplus indoor aerial for sale) ......... ummmm because of the other members response I often get to most of my postings.

Sorry Digby I just had to pop that in, because of the other members here.

1314590 2012-11-28 02:24:00 Hi Frank

Thanks for the response, I am glad you did.

I did try to tune it of course, but I gave up after 1 minute of no change or no sign of any channels.

It was not until I found the initial set up" option that I started to cook with gas.

I note that not one member suggested that, or querried how I was tuning it.

I am not an exert (obviously) but I have tuned tv's before.

1314591 2012-11-28 06:40:00 This reminds me a little problem I had back in the days of windows 95, when I went to down load my emails the bar graph suddenly stopped working and not run along to the right side of what I now know as the 'progress meter' (you called it 'percentage bar) after spending hours and hours trying to fix it, thinking maybe computer got a virus and that deleted a file or something, then I remembered maybe when I changed the colors accidental on my computer a few days before, I made the bar graph the same color as the background color . finding it was another problem .

Of course landlords & landladies are renowned for telling their new tenants little lies that there TV outlet works when in fact it does not, there should be a urgent law passed to stop this practice .

You would have found that in the manual download I suggested. It's always a good idea to read the manual.
