| 1340220 | 2013-05-08 01:59:00 | New(ish) laptop about 5 weeks old. HP model. Running Windows 8 and I installed AVG and Malwarebytes on it as protection. All working fine re internet access etc. He is connected using the wireless in the house. Worked out of the box and he's had it away at mate's and brought it back and it finds the network and automatically connects. All good until yesterday. First day back at school and he takes his new toy and connected into their Wifi, did some work etc then brought it home to a world of pain. The laptop can see our connection just fine as well as the 4 or 5 neighbours. Full strength indicated on the signal but now asks for password instead of automatically connecting. Enter it and then it asks for device sharing on or off - Public networks or private networks ( never asked me that before). Doesn't matter which one we click - little arrow going around and around - synchronising network then " can't connect". Ran Windows self help program and it keeps responding with " network is not in range" as the reason for not being able to connect. Checked the adapter setting properties and its set to auto allocation for IP and DNS allocations. Checked that my Password is correctly entered etc. Tried all the following : Turned off AVG Firewall. Disabled security on router. Restarted laptop and also restarted router. No change. Exactly the same problem. Can see the network but not connecting. I manually inputted the settings from my router into the IPv4 tab and it then connected but had 'limited' connectivity. Then clicked the IPv4 setting back to auto and 10 seconds later fully connected, working etc. He then headed off to school again and guess what - same issue when he returned. He swears blind all he does is input a password and also chooses the public or private sharing tick box. Any clues please as to what I can check or look at thanks. Every other device connects sweetly to the router via wireless. I'm running about 9 other wireless devices that have no issues so I'm thinking its something on his laptop. Thanks again Ged |

Where you say this, I manually inputted the settings from my router into the IPv4 tab what ip did you type in under ipv4?? You cant put the router's ip in, otherwise they'll conflict. The ip you typed in is a valid ip, and within the router's valid ip range? |

If it is, take it out of the homegroup and see whether that does anything. Good luck - it is frustrating, I know, as I had a few similar problems when all I did was change security password. |

| 1340223 | 2013-05-08 03:21:00 | Download and try this: www.thewindowsclub.com It will allow you to delete any existing wifi networks and then you can try connect again. I had a similar issue with my laptop at home and once I removed my wifi network using the above software I was able to connect again. So right-click on your home wifi network and remove it then go and try connect again as normal. |
