Google celebrates the 93rd birth anniversary of the Saul Bass, the graphic designer behind the classic Alfred Hitchcock opening credits with a video doodle that salutes the man and his work. Saul Bass was born on May 8, 1920 and the doodle will feature on selected Google home pages on Wednesday. :) |

| 1340183 | 2013-05-08 01:28:00 | Certainly it was not "In the Mood" made famous by Glenn Miller, WWII. Wonderful music. Top of the charts in 1940. Too bad his plane apparently went down in 1944. He is still "missing in action" as no trace of the plane was ever found. "In the Mood" opens with a now-famous sax section theme based on repeated arpeggios (en.wikipedia.org) that are rhythmically displaced; trumpets and trombones add accent riffs. The arrangement has two solo sections; a "tenor fight (en.wikipedia.org)" solo—in the most famous recording, between Tex Beneke (en.wikipedia.org) and Al Klink (en.wikipedia.org)—and a 16-bar trumpet solo. The arrangement is also famous for its ending: a coda that climbs triumphantly, then sounds a simple sustained unison tonic pitch with a rim shot. |
