152930 2003-06-16 07:11:00 Hi I hope somebody can help with this. I have moved my old dual boot hard drive (98, and home) Into a new computer. 98 booted up fine but XP didn't, not surprisingly. So I loaded a new copy of XP into a new directory and booted up no probs, then deleted the old version. Started reloading my programs into a separate partition but am now getting"disc space low" warnings for the windows partition. All that is in this 3GB partition is windows as far as I can see so why is there so little free space? I have run all the Norton system works utilities and defragged (although defrag says too little space to work effectively) but little change. What is windows doing with all the space? Last time I had this problem all I could do was increase the size of the partition to accommodate the blowout but surely there is a better way. NIGGEL (2358)
152931 2003-06-16 07:36:00 Hi,

Im thinking a little out lould here, but sounds like your paging file is also set to the same drive as your Xp Install plus 3GB is not much for XP.
To heck the paging file location look at follow the following.

1)Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced.
2) Under the Performace Tab, Select Settings > Advanced
3) Virtual Memory sub-box, select change.

On a side note, My XP partition is set to 5GB.
Paging File set to a seperate partition, and all programs installed to own partition. And Still XP currently using just over 2.5 GB.

152932 2003-06-16 08:03:00 Turn off system restore. #1 thing to do.

My Xp partition is only 3.5gig in size. thinking of resizing it to 3gig to squeeze some more space out of it. I also have a separate swap partition, and programs, files get installed to another partition.

152935 2003-06-17 08:10:00 Thanks for the advice. I have moved the pagefile to another partition and also found that System Restore was enabled on all partitions so disabled all but the windows drive. This has freed up over 750MB in the windows drive. Now for another defrag. NIGGEL (2358)
