152854 2003-06-16 03:47:00 Are the builtin compact flash mem on the laptop faster then usb2 and firewire?? Meaning USB2 or Firewire running from a Mem card reader.

Just curious.

Nomad.

152855 2003-06-16 04:15:00 The built in slots transfer data in parallel I would expect while any USB or Firewire will be serial access.

So it follows that parallel access (all bits arrive at the same time for each byte) should be faster that serial (all bits follow each other for each byte).

However the access speed for CF memory is probably not all that fast anyway, and it will vary considerable according to technology advances, so any speed differences may sometimes be hard to determine.

152856 2003-06-17 02:04:00 Jaycar say that the adaptors they sell do 600-900 kB/sec on a USB connection. That's probably limited by the flash memory and its controller. I noticed in a photography magazine some comapany making faster flash memory (at a bigger price :D) to speed up the transfer from the CCD to the flash card in the camera. Graham L (2)
