153027 2003-06-17 19:09:00 To uninstall Windows I just reformatted the whole :C drive, which meant I actually got rid of everything. I just kept a backup of my data files. Roly (2259)
153028 2003-06-17 21:19:00 to go back to ie 5 go to control panel add remove programs and look for internet explorer. oldskool biatch (3927)
153029 2003-06-17 22:27:00 Download Super Rabbit Magic set from superrsoft.com
Then, install the app, and check under the 'Autorun' options

From there, untick ScanReg*

You can also have a look around at some of the other settings within there.

If it still continues, then re-install Win98 over itself and see if it helps :-)

Cheers

153030 2003-06-18 02:00:00 I'm not clear whether the registry problem re-occurred imediately after installing Win98, or after upgrading to IE6.

If the error doesnt occur before going to IE6, then that pin-point the problem. IE6 does seem to to cause some problems with Win98.

Win98 has IE4 not IE5, and since IE5.5 SP2 is no longer available the only option of going back to 5 is by way of a magazine CD. Older PC World CDs had IE5.5 SP1. Else use another browser like Mozilla.

153031 2003-06-18 02:14:00 I have IE 5.5 on a CD if you'd like a copy... Sp1 I believe, may be 2.. but I dont have a 98 PC handy to test it out on ;-) Chilling_Silently (228)
153032 2003-06-18 02:18:00 Have found a place to download 5.5 here (searchalot.com) at the bottom of the page if you are stuck. As it is large, might be better to search for magazine CD as suggested. Pheonix (280)
153033 2003-06-18 03:11:00 Unfortunately Pheonix, that is "only" the IE5 setup.exe file. However if you actually try it, it wants to download IE6 SP1 :) IE5 has vanished without trace from MS. Terry Porritt (14)
153034 2003-06-18 05:44:00 There was mention of a download site for IE 5.5 SP2 in this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz). Specifically, download from browsers.evolt.org It would help if you had Jetstream though, by the look of it. tommy (2826)
153035 2003-06-18 05:50:00 Sorry about that Terry. Pheonix (280)
153036 2003-06-18 08:07:00 Thanks for all that, guys. I do have a swag of old PC World CDs, so I'm sure I'll be able to find IE5.5 soon enough.

So, just to ensure I've got this right, the idea is to uninstall IE via the Add/Remove Programs window, then install IE5.5 in its place, correct?
