153291 2003-06-18 08:12:00 Hi Gang, I have just noticed a strange icon being displayed in Control Panel.

It is shaped like a shield, is coloured red and has a red circle round it like one of the rings round jupiter. There is no text at all.

I can send it as a shortcut to the desktop but it does not help identify it.

Nothing I try will allow me to remove it. Have run Ad-Aware, AVG and a couple of Registry cleaners, but nothing reported.

How does one remove control panel items?

153293 2003-06-18 08:32:00 Hi Curly,
It almost sounds like a McAfee V-shield icon,Have you had McAfee antivirus installed on your PC ?
Have you looked in add/remove programs to see if there is any program that may belong to that icon?

The following applies to win 95/98
All icons within the control panel are .cpl files. To delete the icon click Start / Find / Files or folders. For the name of the file type *.cpl ensure that the location is the C: drive and click Find.

Once completed you should be able to locate the *.cpl file for the icon you wish to delete. Delete or move the file to another location and reboot the computer.

Cheers Steve.

To do a screen shot:

On your keyboard there should be a button called " Print Screen"/SysRq or something like that.

Press it & pasted it too your favoured image progume e.g. paint etc... & Save.
