Not allowed in our uniform in those days except for formal occasions...

And no, I doubt anyone ever thought of wearing long pants when tussock grubbing! Not done, sir...

Doesn't ring any bells, Muzzer. I was (ahem) recalling the years '58 - '63 (1900, not 1800), if that clarifies anything!

153225 2003-06-18 13:13:00 Nah. Sister, etc, lives down that way and know a guy with the exact same name as you, prob pronounces H differently :) Wrong nationality tho, he didn't go to high school in NZ and would have been swanning around Rangiora late 70's & into 80's.

So I'll need my winter woolies when I'm down that way early July :O

153227 2003-06-18 21:24:00 Kinda reminds me of my primary school days in the mid 50's in Shannon.

A two mile plus walk to school (the rich kids had horses!!), in rather short dark blue shorts, shirt and jersey. The frosts in mid winter were so sever that by the time we went to school the milk bottles (yep bottles) had frozen, the milk and cream was forced out of the bottle in a column around 2 inches long. The favorite trick was to take off the cardboard bottle top, snap off the milk/cream column and consume it on the way to school, while being careful to smash all of the ice covering all of the puddles along the metal roads. Great times - not to be seen anymore.
