153357 2003-06-18 09:19:00 Right now Ive managed to get into PressF1, write this thread.. get into ICQ2Go! (Although I cant start chats.... need a mouse to click their names).
Ive downloaded MSN 3 (Smaller and faster to download on Dial-Up)
On a Freshly installed Win2K OS!
All because I've leant the parents the mouse..

This is just a random thread, How well can you navigate your OS without a mouse...?
Know any good tips and tricks?

Firstly get into start menu and run heaps from there.
Push tab and get a desktop icon and go to all them, open up IE, My computer.
Its good fun :P

153359 2003-06-18 09:46:00 I have only been mouse-less on the odd occasion - normally it is a sign that all is not well as the mouse was still attached to my PC! I can navigate around and shut down all the programs running and then reboot the PC in an orderly fashion.

I had an invisible mouse for the first few days of running Lycoris - that was interesting ... trying to navigate a new OS with the only indication of where your pointer was by watching for the tell-tell sign of a activated button/icon.

Yes, get a spare mouse :D

153360 2003-06-18 10:01:00 I can do most things I need to under Windows without a mouse. Heck I hardly use the mouse as it is.

Are you sure you can't use a keyboard under ICQ2Go.
*Goes to check*
Darn it. It's not possible either.

153361 2003-06-18 10:36:00 I've been trying to learn as many keyboard shortcuts as possible, and am always on the lookout for new ones. I find mixing them up with mous eclicks reduces OUS or RSI or whatever acronym they use these days. Although it's fun to try the new and exotic ones I find it's only the really useful and logical ones that stick. Shortstop (632)

Like
Window button + E

Opens up windows explore
I use that one all the time

Or Ctrl + P
That opens up the print menu.

Ctrl + S
You can do a fast save that way :)

153363 2003-06-18 10:46:00 Hey

Considering that pupils at our school have a bad habit of thieving off with the mice balls (I haven't yet found out what they are good for... You think our school would've "evolved" and bought some Optical Mice by now to save on replacing all the balls) I can do practically everything by the keyboard, and should I really be stuck for a mouse then I cheat and use MouseKeys in the Control Panel.. Handy thing that is for when some idiot decided it would be funny watching you type up a nice long essay without a mouse ball...
Navigating the internet and everything is easy enough as well - most of the people that take the mouse balls don't realise there are such things as keyboard shortcuts and Alt-F4 will close a window (some people still resort to rebooting the computer...)

Starts to get infuriating every time I open the Control Panel to get called the super nerdy hacker that is rewiring the HTML to the motherboard by the scuzzy serial cable (goddamn these idiots are stupid...). Speaking of incorrect terminology and so forth (sorry Chill I'm vearing off topic), has anyone noticed that with the "Hacker based movies" - we're watching The Net for english - the characters can use super nerdy words like "Subnet" and "Routed with TCP" and most people will just assume it's a hacker thing...

Ignorance is Bliss :D

Atleast in The Matrix Reloaded they used an actual exploit in the hacking scene.
