153117 2003-06-17 10:53:00 PJ is on XP, Maryann is on 98se. We are networked fully & M can access my Desktop screen. If she selects My Music (XP) it does not display all of the music on the XP computer, therefore won't play. Any idea why?? We are both on the latest Media player. Poppa John Poppa John (284)
153118 2003-06-17 11:20:00 What happens when you try moving/copying some music into another folder, eg the Shared folder? Can Maryann see/play all the music then? The music does not *have* to be in the Music folder. Hedwig® (3938)
153119 2003-06-17 11:41:00 Hedwig. I normally copy a CD I like onto My Music (XP) then I can re-play it. It will play the whole CD. I assumed that when Maryann, on 98 selects the XP icon on her screen, & gets the XP Desktop, then selects My Music (XP) that she would access everything there. But not so. Where I have copied a CD directly onto her My Music, it does so, but will only play one track at a time. A Beiderbecke Cd I put on the XP I also put in as a "New File" then renamed it "B" etc. She can access that one under a New Folder,& only play single tracks, but this is too messy. Much better to be able to access the XP original. PJ Poppa John (284)
153120 2003-06-17 11:46:00 tried right clicking the folder and having a squiz at its security options? metla (154)
153121 2003-06-17 11:58:00 Hi Neighbour. Will try that tomorrow when I am fresh. The mattress is calling. PJ Poppa John (284)
153122 2003-06-18 12:40:00 You need to 'share' the My Music folder so that another computer on your network can access it.
From memory you have to right click on the folder (on your XP comp)
Click on "sharing and security"
and then check the box with "share this folder on the network" alongside it
Click "apply" and then you're done.
You should then be able to access the folder from the WIN98 computer
If the folder name is more than 12 characters long Windows will pop up a warning message along the lines that Windows 98/98SE/ME will not be able to access it. Easy solved by renaming the folder with a shorter name. Won't be a problem with the "My Music" folder given it only contains 8 characters.

Hope that Helps

153123 2003-06-18 13:05:00 My guess is, that you have made a playlist or copied the .cda files right off the cd, into the music folder. (This basically makes shortcuts to the individual music tracks, and requires the cd to be in all the time, as you have not actually copied the music).

I think you need to convert the files into .mp3 format. Grab CDex (www.cdex.n3.net) and use that program to make a copy of the cd.

All that remains is to put the mp3 files into a shared folder :)

If you have done all that already, I'm sorry :p
