| 153577 | 2003-06-19 11:29:00 | going by a net pc i have repaired (don't know if its the same company as yours) i wouldn't touch it with a 100ft barge pole. main faults found- case out of spec. has 4 5" bays but can't use 3 of them due to the cd drives hitting the motherboard(case not wide enough) which is why it was in for repair. under powered PSU. elcheapo 235watt PSU's have no place with todays CPU's. 2nd ide cable was missing. 2 button mouse (on a pc less than 12 months old!) very elcheapo motherboard. only good thing on it was the cpu heatsink. in fact the cpu and heatsink was the only original thing left on it after the repair. |

You can buy a computer with a basic motherboard that cannot run a faster processor than what it came with, a nasty monitor,an extremely slow HD and a whole lot of accessories that are built to last the guarantee period, and only the guarantee period. Or for an amazingly small amount more, you can buy a machine with solid reliable well matched components. It takes a bit of commitment to educate yourself to distinguish whats what. But start off by finding out the brand and model numbers of components see how they stack up. I usually look in : <www.tomshardware.com as a starter. Look in pricespy <www.pricespy.co.nz to see what else is available in the same price range. Its a little like buying a car: a brand new V8 5ltr Holden may not be right for you, but then either might be an old clapped out Mini. In the end you have to decide what you want/need and the more work you do before you buy, the happier you will be. As far as the NetPC is concerned, there doesn't seem to be any detailed specs readily available. Why don't you start off be getting ALL the details off them so you can do a valid comparison with other offers. |
