153523 2003-06-19 04:35:00 Hi .. I'm using the Tulip drivers from Mandrake but I want to change to the RTL8139 driver .. how do I install the driver? Thanks SKT174 (1319)
153524 2003-06-19 05:43:00 The driver will already be on there. You can check it by looking in /lib/modules/YOUR_KERNEL_VERSION/kernel/drivers/net for 8139too.o, or 8139too.o.gz (compressed version).

Assuming its set to detect hardware changes (default) it will pick up the new card and configure everything automagically.

I'm really sorry :( I've found it but as this is the first time I'm using Linux .. how to I install this driver?

153526 2003-06-19 09:11:00 I'm not familar with tulip based cards, do they work with both drivers?

If your swapping it with a new card, mandrake will handle installing the driver.

If you want to force it to use a different driver to what it detected. Login as root, open /etc/modules.conf with a text editor, and change:

alias eth0 tulip (or whatever)

to:

alias eth0 8139too

153527 2003-06-19 09:14:00 Thank you for your help . I will try and see .. and I am going to read all the documentation that came with the Mandake CD to learn more .. :D SKT174 (1319)
153528 2003-06-19 10:30:00 I think modprobe 8139too will load the module into the kernel (but I am a little unsure of that). flyer590 (2523)
