If this was the case, I am pretty sure the PC Company would withdraw thier brand from the store. They have a brand name to protect for heavens sake [Edited by: admin on Jun 24, 2003 10:54 AM] |

2003-06-19 09:54:00 | well to answer the sending back in plastic bags thing.... it is stated on numerous packaging and information packs that come with a pc comp puter that warranty is void if the components that are to be sent back for fixing do not come or get couried in their original boxes. and i bought a shop promotional computer cos i got $ 700 dollars off the sale price but it had not actually been connected or put together as far as my knowledge is concerned. as all parts accesories and original registration and such had not been done and i still think i have a mighty fine computer, just wish now it had more memory. beetle

2003-06-19 10:00:00 | >How is what i said hearsay?......hey,ill tell you what is hearsay >This >> >> The mere fact that you could look at device manager >> on those PCs means that 100 teenagers have been there >> before you and already stuffed the PC up. Actually, that's not herasay. That's the result of having spoken to vendors on several occaisions in the 1990s - from Compaq, HP and others - who were involved in servicing the retail chain. One of their main problems was the amount of effort they needed to put in to supporting retail staff in places like Farmers, who weren't equipped to deal with problems on the PCs. One of they main complaints was that demo PCs were continually screwed up by kids who knew more about them than the staff. They'd go intot he registry, change PC settings etc etc. From a brand manager's point of view, having your product not look good in a showroom through no fault of your own was a nightmare. I'm merely suggesting that you can't point the finger at the PC Company if you find odd things with their PCs in a retail showroom. If a PC is delivered to your door in that state, it is a different matter, but a demo PC in a showroom is unlikely to stay in perfect working order for very long ....

2003-06-19 10:16:00 | with neroexpress see if it has an optoin to start up as nero. otherwise go download it (free upgrade) and if i remember rightly you should get the ability to switch from nero express to nero and back. :) external modem.....depends on what type. USB are basicly winmodems but serial external are full hardware and are the best to get.

2003-06-19 14:20:00 | Computers in showrooms can stay in near awsome condition. Showrooms use the Guest account or leave them locked. They sometimes only unlock them only when a customer specifically asks. Not much damage can be done with that, unless some kid spends hours on there unchecked. I have a pc company pc. Once my modem just stopped working. PC company idea of modem techsupport: System restore to 3days before, when your modem was working. Only solution that worked hahaha. I tried to unscrew my cd-rom drive a few weeks ago, to read the model number on it, so I could update the firmware. The damn screws were drilled in soo tight, I had to get my dad in to undo them. Ended up having to use spanners to get the screws undone. How do you install new components/hardware into your pc without invalidating your warranty?? Don't dare open the case yourself! Send the computer in to the nearest office (3hours away), and wait a few weeks while they do it for you. Quite stupid if you ask me!

2003-06-19 21:25:00 | I asked about that Powa, and they told me it was ok to install new hardware by going into the case.(How you would do it otherwise is beyond me!) It just wouldn't be covered by their warranty. The new gear, that is. And any problems the new gear caused.

2003-06-19 22:07:00 | I have a PC Company computer purchased through Farmers. I bought it in September and although it is still under its 1 year warranty It has been back to be fixed 2 times already. First time it was for a new CDRom Drive and it was only 2 months old and second time it was the modem not hanging up correctly. I got it back yesterday after being away for 3 weeks. (they have a big backlog of work to do). After sitting in their Wellington branch for over 2 weeks and not being looked at they decided they didnt have the facilities to put a new Modem in it and had to send it to their Hamilton branch. I must say that I am disapointed after only being 8 months old it has been away 2 times already. I am very concerned that the warranty is due to run out in September and therefore I will have to pay to get it fixed after that. I really thought buying it new it would have lasted much longer without these problems. But then again this is the first computer I have ever owned and maybe problems like this happen to any computer???
