154064 2003-06-21 13:18:00 Hi Everyone,

Well I think i've blown it now?
I'm (was) running WinXP Pro on an Athlon 1.3 with 256Mb RAM.
I decided to try adding a PCI NIC and SCSI adapterto my PC @ the same time without checking any HCL's!

Well now my PC won't start, I've gone through and FDISK's and reformatted my HDD but I just cant get past the setup stage on XP or 2000 at the start when it loads all your temp files then gets to "Starting Windows" (1st stage of setup process - not GUI yet!)

Tried running some other diagnostics on it and mentioned something about the boot sector being missing which i knew wasn't good!

Can anyone steer me in the right direction pse?

As the name suggests, I'm an IDIOT!!!!

154065 2003-06-21 14:54:00 Did you delete the windows xp you say?? And are trying to reinstall it?

Its most likely something to do with the scsi adapter you put in.

Someone will have an answer tomorrow no doubt.

154066 2003-06-21 15:40:00 Check your Bios, if you have no luck there take out the new hardware install windows. Then add the new hardware one card at a time. I think is the scsi adapter myself.

i had same thing happen with a sound card, took it out and all was well.

154067 2003-06-22 04:43:00 Hi Again,

I've removed the two devices, have then run FDISK and FORMATTED my HDD.
Now when I go through the procedure to install WIN XP Pro, it stops about 3-5 mins into it and hangs at the screen that says "Setup is starting windows xp"

Anyone...???

154068 2003-06-22 05:10:00 Boot to your CD, diagnostic start up or setup, get into the console and choose fixmbr or restorembr. Can't remember exact phrase restore, choose help and select from list (win2k, I don't know for XP)
