153933 2003-06-21 07:12:00 Hi Polk,

I don't own a PC Company computer, but I know several people who do, and they have found them to be extremely reliable and trouble free. If there has been a problem it has been repaired/replaced with no problem at all.

Just as an aside, you will find any amount of PC Company knockers on this forum. Not because ALL PC Company computers are bad, but because they came here for advise on how to fix the computer. They could just as easily have owned a Dell, HP. TPC, IBM. I own a HP computer, but because I request help on this forum dosen't mean that all HP's are bad.

Not to buy a particular brand, because 10 or so people on a PC help forum may of have had a bad run, is downright silly. As one of the other replies on this thread said, the PC Company is still in business. Probably because they have sold thousands of reliable, extremely good value computers.

Thats my two bobs worth anyway

153935 2003-06-21 07:50:00 Well I don't think they are that bad.My friend bought hers there and no probs.
When I went to buy my PC I got there specs (PC Company) and went to compu specialist and asked them if they could match there price, they did except a bit extra for 7200 HD and a three button mouse sans ball.
If something goes wrong I only have to walk in shop and they fix it on site, you can talk to tech if you want to.
Don't know iff they have chaged, but they didn't have usb port's on the front, which I find handy for camera.

153936 2003-06-21 15:18:00 Being blunt I despise PC company computers with a passion, I hate working on them, I dislike the poor build quality and el cheapo parts they place into an indifferent case rampant with razor sharp edges and their marginal power supplies. But that aside, I do know of people who have had a reasonable run out of them, not great but reasonable.
However that aside, the comp you are planning on buying does not represent good value for money, for 1500 ish dollars you could go to a reputable smaller firm and purchase the same spec system with brand name parts, a brand name monitor, a printer and scanner.
A case in point is PB Technologies they offer a similar package to the one above for $1461 and with it u get service like service used to be and they use quality componentry. No I don't work for them but I buy an awful lot from them and of the 17 systems I have purchased for myself and others over the last year and a half only one has developed a fault that required warranty service due to a blown capacitor. That was replaced while I waited approx (25 minutes). Compare this with a friend at work whose husband sent their 3 month old pc company comp in to have a noisy case fan replaced. This took TWO weeks, the reason they gave her------ it was a specialized part they had to order in. She gave up went and fetched it backed and I replaced this highly specialized part in under 5 minutes from my box of highly mundane case fans.
However, I am prejudiced against the pc companyand so my opinion should be viewed as such but is a prejudice born out of many bad dealings with them, hours spent working on the damm things, slicing my fingers to ribbons and just too many other bad experiences.
Do what others have suggested and do a search under pc company and reflect before buying.
Go well

153938 2003-06-22 01:48:00 We have bought 2 computers from PC Company over the years, plus have 3 or 4 friends with computers from them. We're all happy! Good computers, ok service. lyndak (4058)
153939 2003-06-24 01:35:00 Never got anything from the pc company but my recommendation is to check out what motherboard they are going to put in. Its all good getting a really fast processor and heaps of memory only to find out you motherboard is crap. The motherboard is the most important part, I recommend getting one with the nforce2 chipset, but try find reviews for that mobo provided. rsnic (3780)
153940 2003-06-24 01:48:00 Ditto on rsnics comments. Have looked at a PC Company PC for a friend and in the brochure / add it looked like a good deal BUT after I went to the PC Co web site and actually looked up the specs it was using old FSB (400MHz intel) and only had USB1.1 ports! You could get a similar PC from elsewhere but with better FSB (533MHz) and USB2 ports. CYaBro (73)
153941 2003-06-24 09:14:00 I am happy with the PC I got from the PC Company and they were exceedingly helpful in trying to fit me with what I needed and the reasons for each choice I had to make.

153942 2003-06-24 10:02:00 Here is my Tuppenyworth.. I have, over a period of time, heard a lot against Dell computers. Maryann has a second hand Dell & it has not given us any trouble. When some one posts on F1 for Help with an "XYZ" computer, it does not follow that ALL that brand is no good. No one will ever convince me that the "BIG Other" brands have a "Perfect" product output. There will always be one "Dodgy" one of summat. be it Computer, Car, TV, or owt. We have all heard the Horror stories, but, surely, the measure of a companies worth is their "willingness" to "Fix" things. From what I have seen & heard there is no problem with the PC Co in that respect. Seeing that they sell so many in NZ they cannot be that bad. It would be interesting to hear from a lagre NZ wide computer repair company & get statistics of which brand of M/c needs repairing most often as compared with sales figures. ( no I don't work there).
