| 154148 | 2003-06-22 03:20:00 | I'm helping a relative set up a computer for the net. They are having some trouble with a spot of adware, they can't stop it and their nice little cyrix-chipped beast can't really take all the extra windows opening up. The other problem is that they have younger children and would like to know if anyone knows of any good reliable nanny software. It doesn't have to be password prtection, as a full block would be preferable. Any ideas anybody? Ambasluv |

| 154152 | 2003-06-22 03:51:00 | Spybot Search and Destroy (security.kolla.de) or Ad-Aware 6 (www.lavasoftusa.com) are your best bets. Norton Internet Security has very good 'Parental Control' built in with password protection etc. I wouldn't buy the program just for that though. You would be wanting the firewall and antivirus to go with it :p Maybe something like 'NetNanny' is your best bet? |

| 154154 | 2003-06-22 03:56:00 | Fair enough - I just wanted to know if people knew one that worked best. I don't know much about these sort of things, so I figured it would be best to ask around to find out the best - I've heard of people d/ling anti-adware stuff, only to get more with it... the other issue I forgot to mention is cost - any free services worth looking at? | ambasluv (1414) | ||

| 154157 | 2003-06-22 05:56:00 | Hi. I highly recommend Norton's Internet Security package. Kerio Firewall (free) has an inbuilt "Adaware" type function which is supposed to be very good. Adjusting your "hosts" file can block any known sites that you want the computer to reject. All the above have more info in this forum if you look at the FAQ's or do a search. Back to the Adaware prob - that sounds very odd - Adaware never did it to me - maybe download the latest version and install after uninstalling the existing version. |
