154325 2003-06-23 00:59:00 Hi there

When I have scanned photos I have had some come out with a dreaded blacked out side - this hasn't taken the place of any of the actual image but is an addition.
My latest problem: a photo 5cm x 4cm scanned to 'bmp' with a 5 x 5cm square of black to its right - this of course prints out.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get rid of this pesty problem please?
cheers lindy

154326 2003-06-23 01:04:00 How are you scanning the photos? Like what scanner are you using and do you crop the pictures?

It may just require that you crop the picture using a graphics program.

That was quick - I'm using an Acer Scanner and PSPro - but the saved image before any 'work' done has the blackened side. This has happened only a few times with nothing seemingly done differently. I did wonder if it was the small photo?

154328 2003-06-23 02:51:00 Are you using the software that came bundled with the scanner? look for an option in your scanning software to crop or auto crop. Select this before you scan. You might need to test it by sacanning simple image at low dpi, so that it doesn't take too long.

154329 2003-06-23 11:16:00 Hi Lindy, i remember having a similar prob when i first got my scanner a couple of years back. Anyway if you are using what i was? - win XP and using the camera/scanner wizard, when you are at the preview stage, you can resize the picture (removing the black outside), by either clicking on full page??? or using the arrows in the preview picture to remove the black surround, then click next?
Hope that helps, "if" it applies to how you are obtaining the scanned pics ?:|
