154196 2003-06-22 04:14:00 Hello, I`m stuck on the ACPI installation for my Laptop. I`m using RedHat Linux 8.0, I have read lots of online How-Tos for ACPI installation for Linux, but That`s all about Debian or SuSe other than RedHat. Also all the online guides need to install a new Kernel, but i would like to stay with my current 2.18.14!
I have tried one patch for the kernel. I did every thing the installation told me. But I just didn`t see any sign of working. My laptop`s is still like some kind of Helicopter. Can any body help me without doing any thing too complex, coz i`m a linux newbie.

154197 2003-06-22 04:48:00 I've just had a look at some of the links google gives for "redhat acpi". It looks as if it's not a nice problem. But obviously peoople are working on it. However, if they recommend a particular kernel version, I would say it's not optional. ;-)

You did install the kernel you compiled after installing the patches? :D And update lilo or grub, so it knew about the new kernel? :D

Laptops are a problem. The standards are non-standard. :_| Good luck. You are going to become an expert. :D

Thanks, And could introduce some linux books for me, so i could learn those essential stuff for linux, like kernels, grub or lilo etc. acmilanlover (4066)
154199 2003-06-23 13:15:00 You may have already checked, but here is a link to a ACPI How To (xtrinsic.com) This is primarily aimed at Debian, but should give you an interesting read and additional links.
