154427 2003-06-23 06:24:00 What do you recommend for email and browser on a 486 running win95?.
Prefer non Microsoft products.
Any email programs that will display html without needing internet explorer?.

154428 2003-06-23 06:38:00 You can try: Mozilla(Phoenix(www.mozilla.org),Opera(http:)( They have older verson, which you can run) or Netscape (http://www.netscape.com)

You just have to have a look for the older versons ;) :)

Good luck & Hope this helps

154430 2003-06-23 08:39:00 Opera would be my recomendation. Version 5 if its a fast 486, otherwise v4.

Opera also has a builtin e-mail app which works fine. Eudora 3 lite would be my choice for e-mail though. It will display html mail, but doesn't do all the formatting (tables etc), not that its really a problem.

154431 2003-06-23 10:50:00 You don't say whether you already have an email account on a POP3 server. If you do, Eudora 5.2 - http://eudoramail.com works fine with Win 95. I used to use 5.1 on a DX4-100 without problems so 5.2 should be OK. You can use the free version but it is cut-down. I suggest using sponsored mode because that has many more features and the advertising is not obtrusive. If you want "roaming" e-mail you can get a Eudora webmail address which delivers to a POP3 server from which you can collect mail with Eudora client or various other clients. Robin S_ (86)
