154676 2003-06-24 05:31:00 If I have two identical LCD panel, two identical Display cards, one via DVI and one via standard analogue ... will I notice the difference?

Reason for this is I'm planning to get a LCD, my display card supports DVI, but the LCD with DVI input is a lot more than the one without, so I would like to know is it worth it?

CHeers :D

154677 2003-06-24 05:49:00 Yes

I notice the difference, its not huge but it can be seen.
Primary LCD display is DVI, secondary LCD is analogue.

I was surprised when I bought a DVI cable and installed it, as I didn't think there was much room for improvement, were running both as analogue.

154678 2003-06-24 05:59:00 Thanks .. :)

when u said u noticed the differences .. does the DVI provides a sharper image? Colors more vibrant? or Color temp is better?
SKT174 (1319)
154679 2003-06-24 06:05:00 Well, as I am colour blind, I will refrain from discussing such issues as colour temperature as what I see may not be what you get (WISMNBWYG)

The sharpness actually improved, as (in my opinion anyway) did the colour depth.
I did not think the sharpness could get any better, but it did.

Certainly spoils you from ever going back to a CRT.

154680 2003-07-07 01:09:00 I've recently bought myself a LCD screen (Philips 170B4) and rushed out to buy a DVI cable to get the excellent picture promised.
Unfortunately it seems my video card is DVI-I and my monitor is DVI-D.
I'm not sure what this means except that my DSE cable won't fit the monitor.
Is anyone able to tell me what cable I should use and where I can get one from?

TIA

154681 2003-07-07 01:26:00 Check out the reviews on

www.tomshardware.com

This will explain all the benefits of DVI over Analogue

Digital->Digital->Digital is better than Digital->Analogue->Digital

There may be a flicker due to a small difference in frequencies.

Colour range is better too. Remember some (fast 16ms) LCD screens only can display 262,000 colours and if you require more than that, i.e. 24 or 32 bit colour, you may find your resolution worse.

Do your research ?

Yep I already did a little bit of research
My problem right now is not being able to source the correct cable

What type of Graphics crad do you have. You may need a later card.

154684 2003-07-07 02:12:00 Card is a MSI8894 TI4200 approx 2 weeks old.
Unlikely it is the problem :-)
As best as I can ascertain there are 3 standards of DVI (DVI-A, DVI-D & DVI-I)
My card is DVI-I and the monitor is DVI-D.
I think a DVI-D to DVI-D cable will do the trick but I still can't find where to buy one.

154685 2003-07-07 02:32:00 Take a look at

www.pacificcable.com

You can probably order the cable from them.

I am considering an LCD monitor, but the colour/motion blur is a turn-off as is reduced resolution. I have 0.21 pixel size CRT and think a pixel size of .25/.27 is noticeable.
