154489 2003-06-23 11:41:00 Hi guys, I may as well ask another question...I have 8gig free on my HDD, and I'm downloading songs to burn onto CD..my query is.approximately how many songs will I fit onto this 8gig? I don't want the machine to start slowing down on the net. Also I am just storing songs in Kazaalite, are there any better ways to store them?
Please excuse my stupidity and ignorance..I'm pretty new to this game!
If it's of any consequence, my machine is 500mhz, 64mg, 10g HDD and Win 98se..
Thanks for the advice..:D

154490 2003-06-23 11:46:00 Well this is where your maths skills come in.
Lets assume a song is about 4mb
a gigabyte is 1000mb
so you have 8000mb
8000/4=2000
therefore you will be able to fit approx. 2000 songs in 8Gb

154491 2003-06-23 11:51:00 I should elaborate how i got 4mb for a song.
This is about the size of a 3 and a half minute song stored at a bitrate of 128, stored as an mp3. If you downloading mp3 this will work if they are in an uncompressed format such as .wav they will be a lot bigger.

154492 2003-06-23 11:54:00 2000 songs??? Jeeze, I was worried a couple of CD's worth would start filling it. I think I'd better try and learn some basics on computer jargon......thank you for the advice.:) amazon (3976)
154493 2003-06-23 21:27:00 Have exactly the same system as ur's amazon and at moment have 1600 songs on hd but running out of space fast ,just over 1.5 gigs left, and the rate that I dl will be gone before Sept-Oct. Hope this helps. Cheers From The Deep South. southernman (2481)
154494 2003-06-23 22:45:00 Thanks Southernman, I obviously have no concerns regarding HDD size then....just out of interests sake, how do your store them, eg folder, kazaa etc? Cheers, and keep warm down there! amazon (3976)
154495 2003-06-24 04:45:00 Hi amazon,

If you need more space, you can always burn you MP3 music files
on to a CD as data, thus creating more space on Hdd,then at some later date burn to CD from these!

A CD holds about 150/165 MP3's.

Cheers,Kiwitas,;-)

154496 2003-06-24 06:08:00 at the moment i have 1414 mp3's, takes up 5.1 gigs. the majority of mp3's on the net are 128kbps. you can go into the kazaa options and you can change where the files are downloaded to as well. i'd recommend getting winamp 2 to play them, kazaa isn't that great at playing. but don't get winamp 3 (very buggy). tango (2697)
