154497 2003-06-23 11:47:00 Hi,
After clean installing my Windows 98SE computer (which ran fine) with Windows XP Professional, I find that while playing SimCity 3000 Unlimited, the game freezes for about a minute then resumes (I can still move the curosr, but the rest of the screen does not move. Sound continues in the background during the freeze. It may happen after I place a road or a building. I have also noticed this bug to happen while playing Quake 3, at a random moment, it will freeze for a few minutes then unfreeze (Too late of course as I had been fragged during the freeze).

I have a NVidia GeForce 2 MX 200 with a Transcend motherboard with the VIA Apollo 133 Chipset, a Celeron 1Ghz and 256MB of RAM. I have used various combinations of sound, 4in1 and video drivers old and new to no avail and the VIA Latency patch, which did not work.

This bug did not happen on Windows 98SE. THe video is also out-of-sync with the audio in say a ingame movie or a DVD and I have the sneaky feeling that the two problems are related.

I looked on the event log during a game of SimCity 3000 and saw many errors caused by NV (NVidia I think it means) which were entitled GR SW or PARSE CMD.

After researching on the Internet, the only fixes I found were to do with drivers and hardware, which I can rule out because it worked fin on 98 and I have used many different driver versions.

I would be EXTREMELY grateful to anyone who can provide a solution to my problem as it has been bugging me for the last month and is extremely frustrating.

Thank You.

Hop over there and do a search. The article I remember, and don't remeber the details, was quete extensive and gave a number of causes.
