155172 2003-06-26 01:59:00 Hi guys

I am just wondering, anyone actually use those Copy Controlled Music CD???

At the beginning of the month, I have a look on the Consumer Magazines which they talk about those Copy Controlled CD... Some of them can damaged the hardware and also they said if you put in on the computer, there is a chance that they break down your computer? is that true? this make me so scared and wouldn't buy another music CD....
(Like on those Top20 CD), Nora Jones, Atomic Kitten and also the latest CD

Thanks
Jacky

155173 2003-06-26 02:14:00 I bought Pacifiers latest album, when it first came out, and that is copy protected.
Wouldn't play in my car CD player or the computer. So what did I do???
I went and made a copy of it!!! ]:) (That's great copy protection isn't it!!
If it had been a normal CD I wouldn't have copied it. It took a copy protection device to make me copy it!!)
I can now play it in my car or in my PC.
Took a little while though to find a CD Drive in a PC that would read the damn thing!
That was also the last CD I have bought because of this.

155174 2003-06-26 02:15:00 Yeah, Ive used them.. The younger brother bought Robbie's latest CD... :-)

Anyways, it wouldnt play on his 1 Year-old stereo (Bought from the Warehouse for $150ish..) so that was a bummer, so he asked me to make a copy of the CD so it would play on a CD-R

Popped the CD in, Fired up GoldWave, and encoded away using the LameEnc.. This technology has been around for years guys, now common, if you cant even stop that.. whats the point?
The only song that wouldnt copy was Come Undone.. so I made it skip the part it was having trouble with.. and basically there was a 2 second or so gap in the middle of the song which was fixed immediately!

Otherwise, It was a breeze to copy, and played on my DVD player, another 4x speed CD-ROM, and the family's Home-Theatre system fine!

Hope this helps

Cheers

155175 2003-06-26 02:27:00 Thanks CYaBro and Chilling

but this is really strange, if they have a copy controlled on there, how come they can't play on a normal cd like "Chilling" Say... So u guys at the end said, so the Controlled Music CD cannot be played on normal player unless you have made a new copy for it or have a good brand cd player...

Wot is the point buying the new CD then...

How about other people in this forum, your input will be appreciated in order to make me more confident buying those new cd again

155176 2003-06-26 03:02:00 If you cannot play a CD on any pice of equipment of your choice, as & when you want, what is the point of buying CD? If enough people took those "Non Play" CDs back for refunds, would the manufacturers persist with copy control? Yes I know I am an old fuddy duddy but the kind of CD that is protected is just a B---Y awful noise to me. Therefore it would not affect my "Normal" type of music. I would not pay $30 for those CDs when I can go down town & listen to the same distorted racket in the shopping mall for free!!! The traffic noise on the motorway sounds better!! PS I do have a couple of data discs I could do with copying, just as a backup you understand, but Nero won't do it. PJ ]:)

155181 2003-06-26 05:00:00 LOL - They all do that, so no worries there.

Never had any problems with it actually.

Its just setting up a Virtual CD-ROM so you can run the Images from your HDD as though they were actually in a CD-ROM Drive :-)
