| 154983 | 2003-06-25 06:00:00 | You're referring to MSN Messenger? I don't think you do disable it from Internet Explorer. But you do need to disable it within it's own options. MSN Messenger/Tools/Options/Preferences Untick "Run This Program When Windows Starts" |

What Microsoft doing somerthing that might confuse users? Get outta here. Like Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer. I've lost count of the number of times I've asked someone to fire up Windows Explorer over the phone to direct them to a disk/network location, only to realise a few seconds later they are staring uncomprehednding at their IE homepage not having a clue what I'm talking about .... |

| 154986 | 2003-06-25 11:20:00 | Hi, i just get off work. no iam not referring to msn messenger, i mean windows messenger v4.7.2009 which come with windows xp home edition version 2002 service pack 1. i did disable it with it's own options but it still auto login when i start the internet explorer. is it possible to disable it's auto connect feature? it is very annonying messenges( from messenger ) keep popup while in internet explorer. thank you. |

I think you can uninstalling it, but have a look Control Panel > add remove progume > windows componts. |

| 154991 | 2003-06-25 12:52:00 | Just so it doesnt matter WHICH you are talking about, here is instructions for both of them. Windows Messenger. - Go to Start\Programs\Administrative Tools\Services - Right click Messenger, click stop - Right click Messenger, click Properties, change startup type to disabled. Microsoft Messenger. (Little green man icon) - Open Microsoft Messenger - Click Tools\Options - Change to Preferences tab - Deselect run this program automatically when windows starts. - Open Outlook Express - Under Tools/Options/General, deselect Automatically log on to Microsoft Messenger. Thats all you can and need to do. There are no options connecting Microsoft messenger with internet explorer, and unless you have some very odd setting, it will not connect to messenger simply by opening internet explorer. Iain |
