i had followed the ghost wizard instruc tion, step by step screen by screen,( selected the source and destination) untill it prompt computer will restart for proceeding backup produre to destination drive, but it stay at ghost screen and would not go any further. me and my friend had tried every thing but would not make it to go.finally we have to reinstall windows.

154967 2003-06-25 04:06:00 I feel your pain. Had the exact same thing happen to me when building my new PC recently.

For the record, you don't need to reinstall Windows. I tried ALL the things recommended on Norton's site for resolving the problem but none of them worked. I even tried Partition Magic in an attempt to delete the Ghost virtual Partition that was preventing me booting back into Windows.

I was on the verge of re-formating and re-installing Windows when someone suggested I try - as a last ditch measure - good old fdisk off a Win98 boot floppy. Bingo - fdisk let me delete the Ghost partition and return my main one as the active Dos partition - 30 seconds work and I was back in business.

I was extremely disappointed that the Norton site did not suggest this as a possible fix.

154968 2003-06-25 04:10:00 I use powerquest drive image 2002 myself easy as to use and reliable not as powerful or complex as ghost but user friendly counts a lot for me kiwibeat (304)
154969 2003-06-25 04:46:00 What was the drive BTW? Mine was a Seagate Barracuda SATA V 80GB. Biggles (121)
154970 2003-06-25 04:48:00 Have tried both DI & Ghost, but find the easist - and never failed yet - Nero HD Image. With a partitioned C drive, and all the OS & important progs on it, it is far quicker than the others. Only disadvantage, it will only back up to CD's. In my case this is only 2.38gb so fits on 4 CD's.
The D drive also has this on as bootable, so if the HD fails I only have to make that the Master.
Bye

154974 2003-06-25 05:14:00 Be interesting to see if this is a problem with all SATA drives or if it is specific to the Seagate drive. Biggles (121)
154975 2003-06-25 05:17:00 Incidently, that was my second drive. The first (brand new) one I got failed when WinXP was formatting it. Nothing we did could get any life out of it (powered up but refused to be recognised by any PC we put it in), so I returned it and got a replacement. I then formatted the replacement with Segate's own drive utilty first before installing XP. Apart from my Ghost problem, it's been a happy chap since then. Biggles (121)
