Highly doubt it. Thats not where the story is leading them. They are more likely to be interested in performing magic.

>You're not going to get possessed just by diving into "the occult"; it might educate you as to where some plausible modern thought comes from. I don't want to get into an argument on this, but homeoeopathy, for example, contains huge dollops of mediaeval magic, which you wouldn't recognise unless you'd "been there".

Rubbish. You start getting into the occult, your in serious trouble.

> I speak as one who has been deep into "the occult" and come out the other side, enriched but sceptical - and I've known many more who've travelled exactly the same path.

Well your into satanic activity yourself. We should dismiss anything you are saying.

> Intelligent and critical/sceptical/well-grounded children will have no problem with Harry Potter. I have a child of the appropriate age, who reads the books for enjoyment. At the same time, she has occasionally expressed interest in my actual experience with magic and why it taught me to be sceptical of many pseudo-magical "alternative therapies" and the like.

See. Your facination with evil things has passed onto your daughter. What a worry.

> Superman's made a few kids try to fly too. A world without imaginative fiction would be DULL.

Agreed. But there is a boundary. Trying out magic, is getting into the occult. Occult is nothing more than worship of the devil. Don't try to disguise or dismiss it as anything else.
