2003-06-27 03:25:00 | I bought a 7200.7, 120Gb Seagate, with 8mb of cache for $233 (incl postage) from Paradigm PC's. I didn't check if my motherboard supported it? How can I do that?

2003-06-27 03:31:00 | www.chaintech.com.tw Thats my motherboard there. Will it work with the (Seagate ST3120026A)?? Also I'll be keeping my slower 20gb hard drive in the machine. Do I need to give this new hard drive a dedicated grey ide cable thing?? So the other one won't slow the new one down???

2003-06-27 03:38:00 | Hi PoWa You should get a suitable cable with the drive if not the cable will use one with a blue stripe on the side or blue plug. You can plug both onto the same cable, set the HDD jumpers to reflect which one you want to be master and slave. Back up a bit, the cables usually come with the board don't they, hmm, will still work just not at optimum. HTH Murray P

So the other one > won't slow the new one down??? Nope, they can both happily be on the same cable - one drive selected as Master, the other as Slave. Something to be aware of is whether to set the jumpers for the drives to either master/slave or cable connect - I'm not a wiz on hardware, but I understand that if you have Ultra DMA capability on your mainboard, your IDE cables should have a grey and a black connector - if this is the case then you can choose Cable Connect setting for the drive's jumper setting, and just plug the cable connectors into the drives in the right sequence. I can't advise anymore otherwise I might be exceeding the boundaries of my knowledge! |

2003-06-27 03:48:00 | Oh ya, be sure to go into the BIOS and check that Auto is selected for the hard drives' detection. Lots of previous postings on this can be found in the FAQ's. | Greg S (201) | |
