Basically its combination of a layer of shock absorption/insulating foam and a stainless steel plate to protect the inards of the hard drive. - According to Scott Bartley in the March magazine. They can withstand 1000gs of shock! :D is this a good feature to have on a hdd? Or can I do without :p? |

Do you lug your computer round with you, use it in less than perfect situations, or use next to concert subs... If so then yes.. its a great idea! .Chris |

| 154922 | 2003-06-26 01:19:00 | Nope I don't :P I just heard that they removed the seashield thing from their newer models because it may have been generating too much heat. I could get into their site, finally at about 4:30pm yesterday. QMB are not responding to my emails, bad service! I sent the first one at like 5pm yesterday and its now 12:15 next day. Still nothing. I'm going elsewhere. What bad service! |

Still up to the old tricks eh PoWa Maybe they atr too busy to reply, just ring them for cripes sake, or support a PC shop in your own city. Or are you trying to save 10 cents |

| 154924 | 2003-06-26 09:17:00 | ah southern man, aka shortstop. Just a point, why would someone ring up a place in auckland (which would be an expensive toll call) to get some information? If they can't reply to simple emails, its bad service. Plain and simple. PC shop in my city? Where? This is southland! Surely you of all people would know that. Anything down here, your looking at expensive and poor quality. Except for Noel Leeming. |

| 154925 | 2003-06-27 02:54:00 | Ok, I went out and picked up a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80gig (ST380011A) yesterday. I get a special deal from my favourite supplier which he can't give to all and sundry, but his regular price isn't bad @ $170.00. www.computerdirect.co.nz, based in Penrose. As it happens, my bl**** mainboard doesn't support it (damn me forgot to check) so I'm now in for another outlay for a new board! haha |

| 154927 | 2003-06-27 03:09:00 | Greg S.. My main boards don't support drives larger then 3xGbyte either, there is a patch available from the seagate site that fixes this small problem. I have no problem with running an 80G drive and a 120 gig drive in Sam the jolly Linux box, even though it is just a VA503+ motherboard .Chris |
