I've spoken to a manager from one company and he asked me a question why would I need linux if all my programs run off Windows fine? What would have been a good answer to answer this question?

He's/She's not a good target then. If they are happy with what Windows offers them, thats fine.

I would agree with that. It's best not to push someone into something that they don't really need. However, if they were considering an expensive upgrade, that would be the time to mention open source software.

Frankly, I am not sure my inner geek wants to do anything with Unix.
People can run Win98 and Office 97 quite happily and be getting excellent value for their money (spent six years ago and still working for them, perhaps that could genuinely be called an investment).
