155505 2003-06-27 01:02:00 unless your pc is disturbingly old, it'll be fine. sanchez (3445)
155506 2003-06-28 01:47:00 IDE was the first moden way to connect a hard drive to a computer.
the next step up is E-IDE.

and you have heard of ATA?? most of the time ypou can just think of ATA as another name for IDE (there is a bit more to it than that but we will not go there right now) ATAPI is a bigger better version of ATA.

so if your computer is less than 5 years old you will have ATA, E-IDE, ATAPI all spported by that one ribbin cable :-)

155507 2003-06-28 04:09:00 You might find that an "old" IDE CD drive won't boot on a modern computer, even when the BIOS is set up to do that. An EIDE/ATAPI one will. Neither will boot on an old computer. Both will still work as data drives, with an appropriate driver installed, on older computers. Graham L (2)
